Harper's So Gangsta

I'll let the video do most of the talking, but to set it up: We were on our way to my parents' house this summer, we were listening to Ice Cube, and I looked back and saw this...

The 2-3ft Point of View

So after a several month hiatus, Marielle has decided to take up photography once again. Her time away from behind the lens, however, was not her fault but mine. Her camera ran out of batteries one afternoon, and, yes, it has taken this many months to get around to replacing them. For those of you with small children and children's electronics, you know that replacing batteries isn't merely as easy as having the right size and quantity of battery ready for the replacement. No, you also need to have a screwdriver. Believe me when I say that the trifecta of having the toy, batteries, and screwdriver is often a long shot at best.

Marielle was thrilled to have been reunited with her camera. I know this because it was conveyed many times to me by my daughter. She was also very thankful that I had "fixed" her camera and that I, "had done a very good job Daddy!" If only she knew that my inability to keep a screwdriver with the batteries had kept her and her camera apart for these past few months.

After spending the afternoon snapping photos, I quickly downloaded them to the computer so that I could upload them to the blog for you all to see as I had promised ... eight months ago. Here is the part I was most excited to share. Check out the point of view. It had never dawned on me how different our children's view of the world is from ours. And I mean from a geometric/height standpoint as opposed to a philosophical standpoint. Despite the fact that I look down to talk to her, it never sunk in that they spend all of their time looking up to us. Not only for guidance, but literally. It was a real eye opener for me.

Woo-hoo

While I'm sure that the plummeting price of a gallon of gas is a harbinger of the economic doom that is to come, part of me is now giddy with excitement to fill my gas tank. Over the last few months, I've taken my car to the brink of empty because it irked me so to watch my 15-gallon tank approach $60 to fill. I can't even imagine how you SUV drivers out there felt. Viv and I had started carpooling a few days a week and even with the rock bottom prices (it's sad to think that $2 is rock bottom; when I started driving gas was like 95 cents/gal) I think were going to continue this. Partly because of the savings and partly because I like looking over and watching Viv sleep with her mouth wide open on our way into Boulder.

Q: What kinds of things did you guys do to adjust to 4-dollar-gas and will you keep doing them now that demand and price has dropped?

My Car is My Trashcan

Holy crap my car has been a total disaster! While Harper napped, Ellie and I managed to pull two small trash bags of stuff and half a recycling bin of empty Sobe bottles and Arizona Iced Teas out of my car. This stuff has been piling up for quite some time. It's nice to be able to offer up my car again when I go to lunch with coworkers.
